It looks like Shero is wasting no time...
Quote:
Ray Shero has been busy a day after his Penguins‘ first loss.
Shero, the Penguins general manager, made two trades Thursday.
Defenseman Carl Sneep was traded to Dallas for a conditional draft pick. Also, Shero swapped AHL right wingers, sending Benn Ferriero to the New York Rangers system for Chad Kolarik.
The may be more moves coming, as Shero is engaged in discussions to trade defenseman Ben Lovejoy – a move that could clear the way for veteran Mark Eaton to eventually rejoin the Penguins.
Eaton, the first player Shero signed upon taking over as general manager in 2006, was a regular for the Penguins on their 2008 Stanley Cup Final squad, and on the 2009 Cup championship team.
Eaton had a tryout with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Penguins‘ AHL affiliate, on Wednesday.
Eaton, 35, spent the past two NHL seasons with the New York Islanders.
The Penguins are carrying eight defensemen, but rookie Simon Despres can be returned to the AHL without clearing waivers.
Neither Lovejoy nor Robert Bortuzzo have played in any of the Penguins‘ three games.
