Sledgehammer has revealed details on their now cancelled project that were working on before they signed on to start producing Call of Duty titles full time.
Speaking to Game Informer (via Gamespot), as part of their Advanced Warfare cover story, developer Sledgehammer Games said that the game took place during the Vietnam War, particularly the US “Secret War” in Cambodia.
Glen Schofield, Sledgehammer co-founder said, “We had spent six or eight months on it, and were really getting into the story. We had some really cool mechanics. We had a big moment that I would love to get into a game someday, but it’s not something we could do in first-person.”
The game apparently had about 15 minutes of playable content before the studio ultimately dropped it in favour of working with Infinity Ward on Modern Warfare 3.
“It was part of our culture that we were all gonna make that decision together. We would have loved to make that [third-person] game. It was in a space that we enjoyed, but how does anything compare to the first-person blockbuster release of 2011?” he added.
