Sizzler Bites Fest at District 6

Posted on the 18 September 2017 by Cheekymeeky

If you live in north or central Bangalore, District 6 is the place I recommend for a chill hang-out session with friends over a beer, or two, or many.

Even if you live in other parts of Bangalore, hoofing it to District 6 is not at all a bother as the place is situated within a 2-min walk from a Metro station (Sandal Soap Factory) on the North-South line.

Our gang went there for a relaxed Sunday afternoon to catch up over drinks and their limited time only sizzler menu.

First thoughts

We were a bit startled to see the size of the place. It was ginormous, with a patio seated area, and a huge inside area as well. Apart from that, if you want to have private parties, you can request to book secluded areas too.

The decor is very nice too - very modern, and industrial. I loved the combination of the chrome accents and the brick walls. Very classy!

We seated ourselves at a room and really enjoyed how quiet and private it was.

The Beers

The place is a micro-brewery, and so as soon as we settled down, the staff served up a small sampler of the different beers they have available.

There was a variety of beers on offer to suit all kinds of tastes - Lager, Wheat, Dark, Lager Strong, and Radler. My absolute favorite was the Radler, which was a lemon flavored lager. It was light n easy, and just my type. The strong lagers were good too, but I wasn't in the mood for something so heavy in the afternoon.

Apart from the beers, they have a variety of other alcoholic drinks. But we kinda stuck to the beers, the servings were so huge that none of us girls went beyond one helping.

The Food

And then came the plethora of sizzlers for us to try.

There was a huge variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I didn't try any of the non-veg options, so in this review, I"ll be focusing on the veg ones.

The first sizzler served was a cheese and vegetable stuffed tandoori aloo (potato). This was comfort food to the power of 10. The combination of cheese and potato was too good, flavored just so, and really set the tone for the rest of the meal.

Next came the Andhra spiced mushrooms, which looked very exciting on our table, but eventually turned out to be the most forgettable dish. It's not that there was anything intrinsically wrong with it. It's just that it did not live up to its name. I was expecting something a lot spicier based on the description.

And now comes one of my favorite dishes - this is the dish that we all noshed on throughout the lunch. We had to get multiple orders - it was that delicious. Funnily enough, it was the simplest no-frills dish served up to us - beer bread.

Yes, this bread was actually baked with some beer in it, and it was served up to us with some pesto, mustard, and beer butter. All the three dips were excellent. The pesto was good. The mustard was pungent, but pleasantly so. And the beer butter was just utterly butterly delicious.

Another dish I recommend is the dahi kabab with walnut and mint. It was very flavorful, very middle-eastern in style, and I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had not stuffed myself to the gills with the bread already.

By the time the dumplings appeared, I had recovered my appetite a bit. I tried the veg dumplings, which had a mixture of corn and spinach stuffing, served with a spicy soy sauce. I loved these dumplings unconditionally, and next time I visit, these dumplings would be on my plate again.

The next dish I tried was the jerk marinated cottage cheese and pineapple skewers. I liked this dish all right. The combination of paneer and pineapple was very tasty, but also very filling - a fairly rich dish.

The last veg sizzler I sampled was the potato and corn donuts with curried lime sauce dish. It was excellent too, but by now I was too full to do any justice to them. I had a couple of mouthfuls and that was it. I also wanted to keep a little space in my tummy for the desserts.

The desserts

OMG. The desserts were mind-blowing good. We tried a sizzling chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce (manna from heaven for a chocaholic like me), and a raspberry cheesecake. Generally, I am not a fan of cheesecake, but this one was done very well indeed. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the desserts served here.

Overall, I thought this was a fabulous place to chill out. I am not too familiar with the dining scene in North Bangalore, but this one should definitely rank pretty high. I loved the place.

For me, the wins were the excellent decor, spaciousness, and general chilled out atmosphere (at lunch time) and the fabulous brews. If I had to visit again on my own, I would reorder the Radler beer, the veg dumplings, the beer bread, the dahi kabab, the paneer and aloo sizzler, and the desserts.
