The music video for Sisyphus’ (Serengeti, Son Lux and Sufjan Stevens) “Take Me”, released recently by Brooklyn-based director Ryan Dickie, is simply brilliant. Stevens’ wincingly beautiful lyrics and sound paired with Dickie’s cerebral and “of illusory” imagery is magical.

“I want to be your friend,” a line repeated throughout the song, is one we use countless times in our life, from an early age of not fully knowing the meaning to the more empty places of now, stuck inside the social media discord of thousands of friends and “likes”. During the  video, I found myself wondering, “what is the actual definition of a friend these days?” This video holds so many visions of love and relationships — self love, sensual love, sexual love and a swirling space of searching. That’s the kind of love Sufjan Stevens seeks to bring to life in his art. Be sure to watch the video above and take this journey for yourself.
