The Reason I Dressed
On this particular occasion I “dressed up” for last week’s White Night in Modena called Nessun Dorma. If you want to read all about this event, where all of the city’s museums are free and open late I wrote about it here. I also wrote about how kids in Italy stay UP LATE!!! And not just for these fun events but all the time! Every night in our house is a white night!
Before heading out I had to hang the laundry up on the clothes lines we have on the roof……..isn’t my life just so glamorous! I figured that it would be dark by the time we were out, so I set up my self-timer to take some of these shots while there was still daylight. Lame, I know, but hey, no use talking about what I wore if you can’t even see it! Case in point, the pictures from the actual event are all a little dark!

If you read this post I did a few weeks ago about changing out my closet with my summer wardrobe you know I have a lot of STUFF. And this season I’m trying to wear most of it before I buy new things. The hardest thing about shopping my own closet is that sometimes I feel the things I own are not modern and “in-style”.
One of the things I’ve noticed recently, however, is that a lot of window displays in Modena have really cute outfit compositions…..and I own items that are similar (even though not exact) to the things on display. The other day, for example, in the most posh store in Modena, I noticed the mannequin was wearing trainers, a long jersey dress, bakelite bracelets and a fringe bag!!
Forever ago I bought this fringe scarf using my Fashion Foresight and anticipating the huge fringe trend this spring. I knew I didn’t want to invest in a fringe leather bag (too trendy and expensive) but I did want a bit of fringe in my life. I wrote all about “Fringe for Spring”, this scarf and “shopping in advance” in this post! The scarf cost 5 EURO and I’ve been holding onto it since mid-November 2013, planning my Spring outfits!
So, in analyzing the cool outfit on the mannequin in this super expensive boutique I realized that I ALREADY OWNED a long black jersey dress, tons of bakelite bracelets, a leather moto, cool red Nike trainers, a fringe scarf and I added in a black leather pochette !

This is how the look turned out. I’ll admit the black jersey dress could be cuter, but hey it worked, and it was a nice summer outfit at a ZERO COST! I got a lot of different compliments from my mom friends about how original and chic it was….I didn’t tell them I just copied it from a store window with what I owned!

In the next few weeks I’ll be sharing a lot of outfits inspired by window displays and created using what I own! I’ve also tried to take more pictures of the displays so I’ll include them!!
