Simple Truck Tees

By Vixenmade @vixenMade
We have another party coming up.
Yep.  My boys are no longer toddlers.  They're going to be 3!  I can't believe how quickly the time flies with those two.  It always has.  And it's always bittersweet.
Anyways, so I've been working on a few projects in preparation for their party.  They love trucks.  Mostly construction trucks.  You know... big, noisy and rough trucks.

I figured a cute birthday shirt would be special for them.  But, of course, I hate wasting a good shirt on just one day.. I wanted to be sure they could still wear it any day of the year.

I created these with a freezer stencil.  I had yet to try it and I'm glad I finally did.  So. stinking. easy!
Start off with a basic tee (or two, in my case).

Simple Truck Tees
Find a stencil or silhouette of a truck and size it to however you like.  I used this stencil.

If your image isn't bold enough, trace around it with a felt marker.

Then trace it onto your freezer paper.

Cut out your shape using an exacto knife.

Be sure to keep any inside shapes or pieces, like the windows.

Once you have your stencil cut out, center it on your shirt (waxy side down).  Be sure to place your pieces and iron in place.  Just a quick press is all you need to ensure it sticks to the fabric.

Slide a piece of cardboard between your shirt layers to give yourself a flat surface and to prevent it from bleeding through to the other side.

I used a black fabric paint and a sponge brush to paint my trucks on.

It's mostly a dabbing motion that you'll be using to paint it on, being careful along your edges.

Give it just a few minutes, then remove your stencil.  It'll come off like a sticker.  You can use an exacto knife to remove your small paper pieces. Set it aside to dry for the day or overnight and you are done!

My boys chose which trucks they wanted on their shirts.

I like their choices.  They can't wait to wear their new shirts!
