Signs of Life?

Signs of life

"Now, I've got crayons rolling around in the floorboard of my car

Bicycles all over my driveway, bats and balls all over my yard

And there's a plastic man from outerspace siting in my chair

The signs of life are everywhere."
-Steven Curtis Chapman, "Signs of Life"

That certainly describes my house on a GOOD day.  There are plenty signs of life, 6 lives to be exact.  Each filled with a never ending list of have-to-do's and should-do's, but constantly getting hung up in the messes of learning and living.  Or more affectionately called, "Signs of Life."
I understand as a parent it's not possible to do it all - something has to give.  But what gives and what takes precedent should be carefully weighed in the light of eternity.  Someday those "Signs of Life" will move on and when they do will it be with joy for the memories made together or will it be with relief to be free?
Recently I was a guest in a home where the goal was to suppress those "Signs of Life".  The drive and determination at which this was executed left the kids void of most parental interaction in the confines of a pristine kept fortress.  As a result, there was little joy and little desire to even interact with parental unit.
While life is happening under your roof, let some of the chores go aside and let go of having to have things perfect.  Enjoy those "Signs of Life" while you can!
