Show #044: Donkaster Elektronische Freundschaft Electronic Special

YtN&tM #044

This week's show was inspired by an electric night last Saturday spent at Doncaster's Vintage Rockbar, where local act Jan Doyle Band put on the first Donkaster Elektronische Freundschaft: a gallant attempt to bring electronic music back into the local live scene. Featuring 3 bands who I'm ashamed to admit to being oblivious to before last week's event: The glam electro-pop of Tokyo Witch Hunt from Barnsley, the Suicide/Soft Cell influenced Jan Doyle Band from Donny, and Glasgow's Analog Angel, who would appeal to fans of early DM and Nitzer Ebb.
The night was brilliant, though I'm sure a few more bodies would have been welcome... It was certainly refreshing to have something different to listen to in a town which is usually dominated by geetars and dance music. Even the DJ was hand picked with a playlist which included the Cabs, Fad Gadget and loads more to keep the punters happy between the bands.
The next DEF night is due to be held in October, and I will be sure to tell you all about it nearer the time, and once again feature the acts on the show. If you're local (or even if you're not!), you should get yourself to Donny for the next one and feel the electricity!

Videos

From the first DEF, this is Tokyo Witch Hunt with their take on The Cure's A Forest

From Doncaster, and the organisers of the event, this is the Jan Doyle Band with Pulsing recorded earlier this year in Leeds.

This is Berlyn Trilogy who were present, but didn't play at DEF. They're possibly going to be playing at the next DEF due in October.
