We all know the dangers of drinking alcohol while pregnant, but some mothers do drink and some have been known to binge drink or drink the way they did before becoming pregnant, some mums to be are indeed alcoholics.
Should bars and even shops be obliged to refuse pregnant women alcohol. Yes you could argue that a pregnant women should be able to choose if she drinks or not or that they could easily get someone else to buy the drink for her, but what about bar staff? If they are faced with a pregnant women asking for an alcoholic drink should they refuse to serve her?
I personally did not touch a drop of alcohol during any of my 6th pregnancies, I never missed it. I do have friends who have the odd glass of wine each week and do not think that is wrong, but to witness a pregnant lady drunk? I would be disgusted. I would also even for a celebration drink in public, I would feel guilty and ashamed and to be worried about how it would look to others..
The Department of Health (DH) and doctors’ professional bodies say it’s safest not to drink at all during pregnancy. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence says it’s best not to drink in the first trimester. Other research has shown that having a glass of wine a week will do no harm to your baby. Baby Centre reports.
I don’t understand why women would want to put their unborn babies at risk by drinking more than the odd glass of wine.
The argument would be its the women’s body and her baby therefore nobody else has the right to judge what she can or can not do.
Pregnancy is a difficult time and there are so many do this and do that’s to follow. Is drinking the odd alcoholic drink in a bar really going to do any damage to your baby? Probably not if its just a one off, but how would bar staff know your having a one off drink or if your a craving alcoholic and they feel responsible to intervene?
