Shopping Etsy for Vintage Trends

By Linsibrownson @CleverSpark

If you haven’t noticed, the trends we’ve been seeing in magazines lately, and from New York Fashion Week, seem to be seriously inspired by the 70s and 80s. In fact, with the exception of fast fashion trends like the high-low hemline and anything “boyfriend” cut, there are very few truly original concepts for you to shop from.

That’s quite alright with me, as I’m a big lover of vintage fashion.

However, shopping vintage in from a thrift store or vintage shop can be frustrating if the selection is limited. Thankfully, you’ve got access to the world’s largest vintage store – Etsy.com. Here are 3 trends I’m loving that you can easily find on Etsy.

The Leather Jacket

When buying a vintage leather jacket, it’s best to stick with either black or oxblood. Browns and tans are finicky colors – just avoid them. Also to avoid: a huge butterfly collar. It just screams “COSTUME PARTY!”

The Jumpsuit

Wearing a jumpsuit takes guts. Wearing a vintage jumpsuit? Much like the leather jacket, you’re walking a fine line. If your jumpsuit is from the 80s, make sure you play down the 80s-ness with chic, understated hair and accessories. Wearing big hair and plastic bangles will, again, make it look like you’re on your way to an 80s dance party. Instead, go a little bohemian for some interest and subtle contrast.

The Long Sleeve Dress

Remember when dresses had sleeves? I feel like it’s tough to find good dresses *these days* which also have arm coverage.

I love wearing dresses because they’re EASY. When you’re rushing around, getting dressed, it’s one less decision to make. And I’m all about convenience.
