Shoe From Kenya Allows You to Charge Your Phone While WalkingAnthony Mutua, a Kenyan inventor has been displaying his latest creation at the inaugural  Kenyan Science Technology and Innovation Week in Nairobi. The re-purposed Nike running shoe has a small “crystal chip” that can generate power when the sole of the shoe bends during walking. With a long cable to a phone that you could put in one of your pockets, the shoe charges the phone or stores energy for later charging. Now that’s people power.

The device is actually an insert, so it can work in almost any shoe and be switched in and out of shoes depending on which one you are wearing. Coming in at around $46, the project was sponsored by Kenya’s National Council of Science and Technology (NCST).
