Husband supports teacher wife who ‘had sex with her student’ as she is set to appear in court
Daily Mail: The husband of a teacher accused of having sex with one of her students said today that she is a good teacher who simply cares excessively about the children in her care.
‘I would say that she is too overcaring,’ Kristina Ngum’s husband said in defense of the 43-year-old mother-of-two. He would not identify himself except to say that he is Ngum’s husband, and he said that knowing her, there is no way that the charges could be true. ‘That is not my wife, she would not do that,’ he told The Charlotte Observer.
Ngum, who works as a cheerleading coach and physical education teacher at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, was charged after the student in question was arrested for an unrelated drug case. The teenage boy, whose name is not being released, is believed to have told police about their affair while being quizzed.
Ngum’s duties also include coaching the cheerleading team of the school and she also works with children with disabilities. She has since been suspended with pay while the case is investigated.
She turned herself in at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Saturday after Charlotte-Mecklenburg police obtained a warrant for her arrest. Detectives determined the sexual activity happened at a location off campus. The age of the student has not been released.
Since her arrest Mrs Ngum, who has two young boys, has been banned from teaching her classes. A school spokesman said: ‘At Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, our first priority every day is the safety and well-being of our students.
A school teacher has a sacred bond of trust with students, their parents and with our community. We take very seriously any allegation of inappropriate teacher behavior that puts children at risk and compromises that trust. CMS is working closely with law enforcement authorities in their continuing investigation of the alleged actions of Kristina Ngum.
An internal CMS meeting with Ms. Ngum and CMS will determine any immediate actions the school district will take at that time. Ms. Ngum will not be in contact with students prior to the meeting.’
Her arrest stunned neighbors. ‘I just can’t believe something like that,’ says neighbor Jesse Ravenel. He said he knows Kristina, her two young sons and her husband. ‘I can’t say one negative thing about the family,’ he said.
‘She’s just as sweet as she could ever be when you see her. She’s (a) very sincere looking person. You ask her for anything and she’s always there to help ya out with anything,’ says Ravenel.
Ngum is charged with one count of sexual activity with a student by a teacher, a felony. She has a previous arrest in July 2011 for larceny under $50 and false pretense, WSCOCTV.com reported.
