She's Misunderstood

Picture This image is what I visualize when I picture a magazine employee or even high fashion. This drawing is inspired by a sketch I saw online and tried to emulate. As soon as I find the original, I'll make sure to provide the info of the artist.
The Bold Type is a striking name and show which tells the story of three young women in fashion endeavoring to grow their careers and social life.
The show stars Katie Stevens as Jane Sloan; Aisha Dee as Kat Edison; and Meghann Fahy as Sutton Brady. I love the concept, the idea is brilliant and fun I just have one qualm with it, namely, the lack of diversity.
I love Kat, she vivacious, outspoken and intrepid. Still, I find her one dimensional. She is only shown as either reckless, rowdy or sincere, regretful. She doesn't have the leaps in success the others have, the moments where her troubles are highlighted, not as a secondary issue but as a primary focus. She is mainly a character that pushes other stories forward and though that is it sincerely problematic all on it's own, the fact that her identity is only focused on it terms of her sexuality is.
Kat is more that the outspoken friend who happens to be bisexual. She is also biracial, a woman and a daughter of two parents who may be psychologist. I am really hoping that at some point, like Meghann, there will me more of a focus on who Kat is.
What is a preference in music? What was her childhood like? Has she dated a lot? What kind of men? Black, white, Asian? Has she ever faced racism or discrimination? The portion of her story which lead to the firey strong character she is present as today is missing and they are important questions. These questions, if answered would make her more relatable, diverse, and ultimately, realistic.
Howcan a biracial girl in New York go years without facing discrimination of any sort right?

Nonetheless, the show has its awesome moments, such as showing that some women have never had an orgasm and that's ok. So, I'm hopeful that the show will continue to grow and cater to all audiences.
