There was a huge trend of hoaxes going on Facebook encouraging users to share abusive and revolting images of sick people or animals claiming that each of those shares raise funds to help the people in need. Most of those photos read “for each share Facebook will donate $1 dollar.” Even though they were as fake as a two-dollar bill, many people fell victim to those hoaxes thinking they were actually helping out people. You won’t have to share those photos anymore because now, Facebook has introduced a legitimate, easier way to contribute to a good cause by launching a “Donate Now” button for non-profit organization pages.

“The Donate feature will appear beside Posts in News Feed shared by participating nonprofits and at the top of their Facebook Pages. When people click “Donate Now” they can choose the amount, enter their payment information, and immediately donate to that cause. They also have the option to share the nonprofit’s post with their friends.”

Thanks to this new feature, now you can make an actual contribution and help people in need, instead of Liking or Sharing a photo hoping that Facebook is going to help them out. This feature will be very useful to raise awareness and collect funds, especially in times disaster.

Even though Facebook doesn’t take a cut from these donations collected through its’ service, they do have a secret evil plan to make profit out of this new feature. Just as Tech Crunch points out, this donate feature will collect an enormous amount of credit card details and store them on Facebook databases, allowing them to use those details later for advertising.
