Shana Cleveland & The Sandcastles slot meandering rambles over slow-burning folk in “Itching Around”. Cleveland, otherwise known as the frontwoman of La Luz, compiled this song and the others on her upcoming album, Oh Man, Cover The Ground, in her basement in 2011 with a rotating cast of musicians as The Sandcastles. Much like the album, the song plays out like a diary that only Cleveland can truly understand, but any listener can feel and appreciate. “Itching Around” is, ironically, unhurried in the same way the folk of years past is remembered. Each riff is patiently plucked on acoustic guitar and reflected in the soft echos of the backing guitar and vocals, all floating along together in a subtle progression that could seemingly go on forever. Oh Man, Cover The Ground is out May 26th on Suicide Squeeze Records.
