is ringing in the new year with the brand new, official music video for her most recent single, Selfish. The Canadian country artist is heading in to the new year with more new music on the horizon as well - and all of it adds up to good things on the way.
We caught up with Shae for a quick little End of 2020/ Start of 2021 Q&A to find out what she's taking away from last year and what she's taking into this year - and we thank her for taking the time for hang out for that.
On the subject of Selfish though, the song is a slowed down, personal power, take care of yourself and take charge of your life ballad. It's not trying to be a post-breakup party anthem or sad story. It's not trying to tell you what to do or how to live. But if you take anything away from Shae's story and song and put it into your own life, you just might find something you've been looking for.
The song isn't just an aspirational message or lyrical advice, it's personal for Shae who says that Selfish came from, "a place of being really happy as a single woman and starting to date again. It was me being selfish with my time and who I spent it on. I just wanted to be blunt about it and I loved the idea of telling someone 'Hey, I like you, but at the end of the day I put myself first.'"
Check it out now, and then see what Shae told us about 2020 and 2021!
Shae Dupuy - Selfish
And now, to the Q&A.
Q. What important lessons or takeaways (if any) did you come out of 2020 with?
Shae. I think 2020 taught me to let go a little more in life! This year made me change so many plans and adjust expectations, so I spent a lot of time focusing on what I can control as opposed to everything I can't. I really took this year to slow down and enjoy the goals I was achieving instead of where I'd thought I'd be before the world shut down.
Q. Can you tell us your top 3 'Selfish' things to do in your personal time? Or, the things you'd like to try to make your top 3 in 2021?
Shae. My top 3 Selfish things to do are: Reading, drinking an entire pot of coffee by myself, and canceling plans to hangout with my dog, Cash.
Q. Do you have any New Year's Resolutions or goals for 2021?
Shae. My New Year's resolution for 2021 is to keep up the new habits I learned in 2020, like slowing down and appreciating what's in front of me right now, and to do more of the 'selfish' things that make me happiest!
