“Sexy” is Totally out of Style.

Let’s look at three of the biggest trends happening now in fashion:

Oversized

Good bye feminine figure, cinched in waist and ANYTHING revealing! Sexy is being confident enough to be comfortable.

Flat Shoes, Chunky Shoes and Sports Shoes

Elongating platforms …. OUT, spiked heels….totally out, dresses with (god forbid) dressy shoes…..passé. The more you can do to make it look like you just DON’T CARE about appearing SEXY, the more fashionable you are, and therefore, paradoxically the sexier you are as well.

“Boyfriend” Anything

Is there anything sexier than a woman who looks like she put on her man’s clothes? No. there is not. What you hide is sexier than what you reveal!

Ok so maybe “Sexy” isn’t out, it’s more a matter of being fashionably sexy, which means steering clear of clichés and embracing NORMCORE! If you haven’t heard of the “Normcore” term yet, I recommend this great post by the Toronto Shopaholic that explains the trend!

Fashion has been trying to move in this direction for years, and those that are “in the know” have embraced that UNSEXY as the new black.

Meet Dina – Real Mom Street Style

Speaking of people “in the know”, meet Dina. You’ve met Dina before here. She has incredible style, in a not trying too hard sort of way. Dina works for one of the biggest Fashion Magazine publishers in Italy and possibly Europe. We’ve often had conversations that we can sometimes be tired of trends YEARS before they’ve hit the market because we’ve already seen them for so long in the “research” and “upcoming trends” phases.

Dina has been wearing cropped pants for years, men’s brogue shoes for years and oversized everything for years! She’s a bit of a fashion idol….oh and she’s also one of the most together moms I know! She balances a full time job, two kids and a husband with no in-laws around to help!1 The WOMAN MAKES FRESH BREAD NIGHTLY, goes to the gym regularly and takes her kids to music, swimming and every other activity she can. She’s a machine!!

What She Wore

Dina is wearing a jersey from the Alexander Wang for H&M collection “TEAM WANG”. Proof that sportswear can totally be fashionable when done with intent! I LOVE her natural hair, oversized coat, leggings and military boots. I’ve written here about the Italian obsession with military boots here.

The Sexiness Dilema

As much as I love oversized and the whole “don’t give a damn” theme that is happening right now in the fashion world. Maybe ….just *maybe* I’m getting tired of being fashionably unsexy! As soon as the weather warms I’m going to make more of an effort to wear heels,until then expect a few more weeks of “normcore” from me featuring my new cream coat (which I’m a little disappointed in, but I’ll get to that in another post!).
