Setting up Studio #309

If you have been watching my posts on either my Facebook page or my Cheryl’s Window Facebook page, you might have seen my posting about a new studio space.  In actuality, it is going to be gallery / studio space.   I am so excited about this opportunity and hope that you will come visit sometime.  We found out about an art building in downtown Fort Pierce that is host to many studio artists as well as Art Mundo, a non-profit organization providing a place for artists to exhibit their work and nurture artists!  I can’t believe I had not heard of this yet, but so glad my friends Debi and Kelly told me about it and invited me to come visit during an art walk.  Art Walks are the second Wednesday of each month and is a great time to meet a lot of local artists and art lovers within our own community.   This is EXACTLY what I have been searching for this year.

My friends Jackie and Susan met me up there last month for us to attend the art walk.  Of course we met early for dinner and drinks first!   We were inspired by not only the art that was there, but the artists as well.   They were so welcoming.  Here are a few pics from that first trip.  ***warning, picture heavy post ***

Painted bamboo!  Cool, huh?

Recycled art.  These were all made from recycled beach trash.

After meeting the artists upstairs, we walked over to the Tiki Bar and talked about how much we would like to be a part of this.  The next day, we added our name to the waitlist for some studio space and decided to partner together and rent a room.

We got a message on the 10th that a studio space had just opened and met back on July 11 to see our new space.  It was a good size space to get started with and has a great view of the intracoastal and the Fort Pierce Marina.  (it was a cloudy day when I took these pics, but it is even better in person)

The previous artist had painted many colors and we wanted to freshen the space and make it ours.  We jumped right in and worked all weekend to get the room painted.  Here are some before, during, and after shots.

Lots of spackling.  Our studio also has a great storage space with built in shelves!

Dear hubby even agreed to help out on that Saturday.   He was our muscle and he took care of the door for us!  Don’t you love the floor?  LOL

We think it came out pretty good, but took a while to dry.

This week we finally started moving a few things in.  Unfortunately, it is not big enough for all three of us to make this our full-time working studios.  We are combining a few extra things we do have and will slowly add to it over the next few months to make it a working studio as well as a display gallery.

I have decided to use it mostly to paint and to display and sell my art work.  I was lucky to get the window as my main work area (thank you Jackie and Susan), so I took my paint drawers and working easel up there.  And you can see from the picture at the beginning of this long post that I have even got to go up there and start a few paintings.

If you get a chance to visit us in downtown Fort Pierce, please let me know.  I invite all of you that are local to come see us on August 14th for the next Art Walk from 5-8 pm at 111 Orange Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34950, Studio #309!  We will have more artwork available to display and have added more of our personality to our studio space by then.
