Serendib FC recovered from last week’s setback to record an impressive 5-2 victory over Negombo Youth FC in their 2022 Champions League Football Tournament match played at the Maligapitiya Grounds in Kurunegala.

The winners got off to a flying start with Mohamed Fayas scoring the first goal as early as in the fourth minute of the game before overseas player Ofori George made it 2-0 a few minutes before half time.

Negombo Youth FC pulled one back soon after the turnaround as Anthony Ikwegbuo netted their first goal to make it 2-1. However, Serendib FC consolidated their position and increased their lead to 3-1 with Asante Evans scoring in the 66th minute of play.

Skipper Riyas Mohamed and Evans scored a goal each in the space of two minutes to give Serendib a commanding 5-1 lead before C. Fernando scored a consolation goal for Negombo Youth FC during injury time.

Meanwhile, New Star FC cruised to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Moragasmulla SC after leading 2-1 at half time in another match played at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo while Saunders SC and SLTB SC figured in a 0-0 draw at the District Sports Complex in Galle.
