Public Health Inspectors in Sri Lanka will begin registering “dansal” stalls organized for the Vesak Poya festival from Monday (May 4), according to the Public Health Inspectors’ Association.
The Association said the registration process would commence through Medical Officer of Health (MOH) offices across the island.
He further said that the Ministry of Health has already issued a set of special guidelines related to the operation of dansal events. Organizers have been requested to consult Public Health Inspectors for further information and guidance.
Meanwhile, l382 dansal events had reportedly been held islandwide for yesterday’s Poya Day observance, the association said, adding that registration procedures for those events had also been carried out.
This year, two full moon Poya days fall within the month of May. Initially, yesterday (May 1) had been designated as Vesak Poya Day.
However, following consultations and guidance from the chief prelates of the Buddhist Nikayas, the government later decided to designate the Poya Day falling on May 30 as the official Vesak Poya Day. (Newswire)
