Send a Christmas Card to a Disabled Soldier

By Eowyn @DrEowyn

This Christmas, take just a minute from your day to cheer up a severely disabled soldier by sending a “Merry Christmas and Get Well” card.

It won’t cost you even a penny.

Major General John K. Singlaub, U.S. Army (Ret.) is teaming up with the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes (CSAH), which provides emergency financial aid to troops severely disabled in the war on terror, in the Secret Santa Project.

What’s the Secret Santa Project?

It’s a project sponsored by the Coalition to send Christmas cards to our wounded soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen along with $500 so they can provide their families with Christmas presents.

Severely disabled soldiers like Sgt. Patrick Myers:

It won’t cost you a penny to send this festive Christmas card. And it’s a great way to cheer up a fellow American who has lost an arm or leg or suffered other devastating wounds in Afghanistan or Iraq, and perhaps even help in their healing.

Maybe your Christmas card will land in the mailbox of a military wife like Kara, whose husband James was disabled serving our country.

After receiving a thoughtful greeting card and emergency financial aid from Coalition supporters, Kara wrote back to say,

“This could not have come at a better time. We have had a very tough last year and ever harder last 2 months, and are on the verge of our final out from the Army very soon . . .

“This is such a scary and sad time for us, on top of some financial challenges right before the holidays. . . . Receiving the card was such a blessing. It was a bright light that put a smile on our faces!”

A note of caution:

Using the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes to send a free Christmas card to a wounded soldier is fine, but if you intend to donate $, I suggest that you first take a look at the Coalition’s ratings on the Charity Navigator Rating website, which gave the Coalition a 0 star rating. Click here.
