Day 2 by Alakananda
The Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race 2011, the worlds longest annual race is underway in Jamaica, Queens, New York. The runners have 52 days to cover 3100 miles over a .54 mile loop on sidewalk around Thomas Jefferson High School alongside the Grand Central Parkway and along 168th St.
This year there are 9 men and one woman, Surasa Mairer, competing in this unique race which has taken place on the same course since its inception in 1996. This will be Asprihanal Aalto’s 11th finish should he complete the race and has won the race seven times.
The race is hosted by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, named after the founder of the group which has hosted over 100 multiday events in New York alone. Sri Chinmoy was an artist, poet, musician and athlete who passed away in October 2007
