Selena Gomez has a cult mental-health focused makeup line called Rare Beauty.
In a candid interview with Glamour UK, the 29-year-old multi-hyphenated actress revealed that she’s not without her fair share of beauty mistakes.
Gomez shared that her most memorable beauty disaster was over-indulging on fake tan at the Met Gala, and we’re instantly reminded of our own tanning catastrophes.
Gomez said that while she was getting ready for the Met Gala a few years ago, she put on a bit of tanning lotion and it looked beautiful, but as the night went on it kept getting darker and darker.
Fortunately for us, our fake tan incident didn’t happen at the event, however Gomez’s reaction was very similar.
This is a source.
I saw a photo of myself and it was orange. I am at an event. My first thought was to leave.
The theme of the Met Gala was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” and Gomez looked ethereal in her angelic Coach gown, however that didn’t stop Twitter from noticing her gradual color change.
In September 2021, Gomez told Vogue that she remembered seeing photos of herself and thought “this is going to be terrible because I’m going to get eaten alive about this.”
Gomez didn’t attend the Met Gala in either of the next two years, as she was traumatised by the beauty failure. Gomez will grace us with her presence at this year’s ball.
We’re taking this story as a reminder to remove all evidence of our own beauty disasters from social media.
