Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, the only creatures stirring were a seamstress and a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, and the family was finally sleeping all snug in their beds, but visions of a sequin me-made flipped through that seamstress’s head.
So when that sewer heard a clatter, it made her sigh, “Now what’s the matter?” She sprang from her chair to see what was up; away to the window, she tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. There was new-fallen snow, which gave the luster to objects below, when in front of her wondering eyes appeared, a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick, she thought for a moment that it was St Nick. No, that husky old man with the beard wasn’t there. The woman whistled, and shouted, and wore a tape measure around her neck.
“Now Maddie, dear Maddie. Why do you stay up all night, finishing this project? Don’t you know to allow three times longer to work on sequins than any other fabric? To the top of the porch, I must show you. Dash away! Come here! This is a tip for all sewer’s ears.”
They walked towards the house and at the top of the stairs, that rickety old seamstress whispered, “With a standard presser foot, stay stitch along all seam lines. Just inside the seam allowance, run a line of clear glue on the stay stitch line. This will stabilize the threads that hold the sequins to the fabric, so that you can remove those sequins with little hassle!”
Maddie’s eyes now twinkled! Her dimples so merry! Her cheeks were like roses, her nose like a cherry, and her droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow. She scurried back into the house, back to her sewing table, with her newfound knowledge held tight in her teeth. She finished that project so that the next morn, she had the grandest, most magnificent, and exquisite me-made of them all.
Just a cute little parody to get everyone in the holiday sewing spirit and a few scrapbooking pages I made to go along with my tale. Wondering where I got all my supplies? Lisa Cook Souvenirs! You must check her out!
