If you’ve got a thing for the foods of Southern Germany, you won’t want to miss Schnitzelbank Restaurant, a Jasper, Indiana landmark!

The Schnitzelbank Restaurant may have gone through several changes since opening its doors back in 1961, but one thing is certain: it’s family friendly and very good.

Jasper, Indiana: Schnitzelbank Restaurant

The menu is rather big and full of those Southern German dishes you know and love. Wiener Schnitzel, Beef Rolladen, Schwine Schnitzel, which you may recognize as a German pork tenderloin sandwich, as well as the “wursts:” knackwurst, bratwurst, and bockwurst.

Many items are served with their homemade, marinated sweet and sour sauerkraut or the hot German potato salad. Yum!

It’s entirely possible that I did in fact find a Reuben Sandwich on their lunch menu…and had to get it. Yes, it’s good!

My husband had a harder time deciding. In the end, he went for the German Tenderloin, a
grilled tenderloin topped with cheese and bacon. It came with delicious German fries and slaw.

Even though Southern German foods are in definite abundance at this Dubois County restaurant, those who prefer more familiar foods will be happy to note that there are American style choices on the menu as well.

The kids menu is certainly kid-friendly: hamburgers, chicken strips, grilled cheese…and bratwurst, the order of Kid #1.

Schnitzelbank Restaurant is an experience. From the shop full of German items that will really wow the kids to the Glockenspiel. Located in the bell tower, you can hear this one play a two and a half to three octave range every half hour and hour.

Here in Jasper, Indiana, you can find a taste of Germany without leaving the state!
