Hey everybody! Are you looking for a new craft for the kiddos? Or maybe a new project that you can do with them for a creative way to spend time together? Or maybe even a fun thing that they can make with their friends? Well, how about our free recipe for our Scented Putty? What kid doesn’t love to play with putty? I know I did, we had it everywhere, all over the house! And what kid wouldn’t love to make their own? They can pick the colors, sizes, whatever they want! This recipe is sure to be a fantastic hit among them and their friends so you should definitely stick this on your future projects to try list!
Ingredients and Equipment Needed to Make Scented Putty
1 tablespoon of Corn Starch
½ teaspoon of Borax
2 tablespoons Distilled Water
1 tablespoons White School Glue
10 drops in FUN Soap Colorant (whatever color you want!)
10 drops Tropical Paradise Flavoring (or any other oil-based flavoring)
Disposable Pipette
Mixing Spoons
4 oz. PET Jar
White Dome Lid 58/400
2 plastic cups (or mixing bowls)
Measuring Spoons
1. In a plastic cup, mix 2 tablespoons of distilled water and 1/2 teaspoon of Borax together. Make sure to mix it well.
2. In a separate cup add ½ teaspoon of this mixture along with 10 drops of Tropical Blast Flavoring and 10 drops of FUN Soap Colorant. (You can also use any of our body safe fragrances instead of the flavoring. However if you do choose to use fragrance, do not use the plastic cups. Make sure to use a mixing bowl because the fragrance will eat through the plastic cup.) Set aside the cup with the Borax mixture. You will not need it again unless you decide to make more than one!
Add 1 tablespoon of school glue and 1 tablespoon of Corn Starch to your mixture. Mix it all together until it becomes too difficult to stir.
Remove the mixture from the cup and place it on a piece of wax paper.
Roll the putty all around in the palm of your hands. It will slowly begin to take form.
When you are finished with your first ball, feel free to make as many more as you want using the rest of the Borax mixture. You will just need to repeat everything from step two including adding the flavoring, corn starch, and colorant. We made 7 putty balls with this awesome recipe, but we still had a little bit left over! So with using all of the Borax mixture, this should make at least about 13 putty balls! To store the scented putty simply place it in a 4 oz. PET jar and tighten the lid. Note: Body Safe fragrance oils can be used for this scented putty recipe instead of flavorings, but if you use fragrance oils, you will need to be sure to mix your putty in a pet plastic container. Fragrance oils can melt certain plastics.
