My love affair with Savages is no secret, and though they seem to have caught some criticism lately, I thought Thursday’s sold out show was just another example of why this band is at the top of my list for 2013. The sound at Webster Hall tends to be very heavy on heart palpation inducing bass, but sound issues and off nights are the nature a of a non-top touring schedule and live shows. I’ve seen the group multiple times since they first came to NYC last year, and they never fail to deliver a passionate performance. They’ll be back September 12th at Terminal 5, and if you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and pick up Silence Yourself right now.

Opener, the co-founder of Pop Noire and John in John & Jehn, Johnny Hostile, put on a killer performance filled with the primal yelps and guttural guitars reminiscent, not shockingly, of Savages. His new single, “Jehnny (Show Me the Moon)”, is available on vinyl and via iTunes.
