Saturday Confession – Good Things I’m Not Doing Again Until Spring

By Lindsayleighbentley @lindsayLbentley

There are moments life where I have spare time.

Now is not that time.

So I’m giving myself the freedom to let a few things fall by the wayside.  Only temporarily, until things slow down a bit, in exchange for more sleep and more time to just play and have fun with my babies.

Here’s my list of things I’m letting go of until later…possibly January, maybe March, but if i’m really honest, they may not happen again until after we move later in the Spring.

1.  Cloth diapers.  I love cloth.  They’re wonderful for my kids, my wallet, and the environment.  But I just. can’t. right. now.  One more load of laundry every other day is too much. Fortunately, I found suuuuper cheap chlorine free, plant-based ones at the grocery store that I’m happy with in the interim. Tricky tip: they aren’t where the “health food” section is, but with the “regular diapers” and are 1/2 the price of the name-brand chlorine-free ones.  Mommy for the WIN.

2.  School.  I’m coming to terms with my suspicion that I may not be cut out for homeschooling. With that in mind, I’m releasing myself from working with Henry on reading, addition, etc. for the next few months.  He likes to do it on his own, which is fine, and I’ll help him along, but I’m not going to prioritize it for a while.  I know.  Terrible.  He’s also probably going to be watching more movies than is advised by, well, anyone.

3. Working on potty training Miles – I had grand aspirations of moving to our new house with only one child in diapers, but the last time we tried he ended up tossing his diaper in the toilet and dropping a deuce on his security blanket.  noootttt ready.

4. Shaving. Ok, kidding, I can’t let that go.  Too gross.   But seriously,  I’ve never been an info-mercial girl, but every time I see an ad for that “Nono hair removal” gadget I have to restrain myself from grabbing my wallet.

5. Plenty of stuff in the kitchen:

  • Making butter – Costco sells Kerrygold…just another reason to love that big, ridiculous warehouse.
  • Making yogurt – Thankfully, whole foods sells a good alternative.  It’s not raw, but it is made from grass-fed cows milk and is full-fat.
  • Making fermented veggies – I have found some delicious kimchi at the grocery store that fits the bill in the meantime.
  • Making granola, making pancakes, or pretty much anything in the morning - I’m buying cereal for the first time in a looong time.  I found a pretty decent corn-free, sprouted, organic cereal that works.  Because sometimes, I just need to pour milk over cereal for my kids in the morning and be done with it.

Anyhow, once things calm down and we’ve moved into our “forever home” in a few months, I’ll be back to normal.  Here’s a little rundown of just a few of the things I am SO excited to start doing:

  • raising chickens for eggs
  • planting my own garden
  • composting
  • hang-drying clothes outside (against my current HOA’s rules)
  • exploring our new backyard and learning about all of the trees and plants
  • video blogs with how-to’s (hoping to get this going!)

Ahh…sometimes it just feels better to lay it all out there, huh?

live well. be well.
