Sattu sharbet is a protein-rich drink and an excellent summer coolant. Sattu is a flour obtained from roasted black gram and is easily available in Indian grocery stores. Sattu sharbet can be made both sweet and savory way. Here we are sharing a delicious and refreshing savory version of sattu sharbet. Sattu is a power house of nutrients. Apart from being rich in proteins, it is also rich in dietary fiber, iron, manganese and magnesium.

Ingredients for Sattu Sherbet:

  • 3 tablespoon sattu / roasted black gram flour
  • 2 cups water (use cold water from earthenware)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • Black Salt to taste
  • 7-8 fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Method for preparing Sattu Sherbet:

1. In a mixing bowl take sattu. Add about 1/2 cup water to it and whisk well.

2. Now add the remaining 1 1/2 cup water followed by black salt, cumin powder, black pepper powder, chopped mint leaves and lemon juice. Give a good stir.

3. Pour into serving glasses, garnish with lemon wedge and serve!

  • Do not replace the black salt with ordinary salt as it gives a distinct taste to sattu sharbet.
  • Fresh coriander leaves may also be added along with mint leaves.
  • Traditionally, finely chopped onion and minced green chili is also added in this sharbet. I have not added here, as it is to be served to kids. You may add onion though as it gives a bite to the sattu sharbet.
