Sathumaavu Kozhukattai Recipe

Sathumaavu is probably one product that every Mom in India has tried without hesitation for their baby! But it’s also something that your child doesn’t have to outgrow – you can make all kinds of things with Sathumaavu, besides baby porridge. Today’s recipe is a healthy Sathumaavu recipe that’s great for kids and adults alike – Sathumaavu Kozhukattai or Sathumaavu Dumplings. The perfect snack for your evening tea this summer!

Sathumaavu Kozhukattai Recipe

Here is a healthy Sathumaavu recipe that's great for kids and adults alike - Sathumaavu Kozhukattai - the perfect snack for your evening tea this summer!

Ingredients:

  • Sathumaavu/Health Mix – 1 cup
  • Jaggery – 3/4 cup
  • Coconut – Few pieces
  • Moong dhal – 1/2 cup
  • Cardamom Powder – A pinch

Instructions:

1.Dry roast moong dhal in a pan till it slightly golden brown.

2.Soak it in water for sometime.

3.Dry roast the sathumaavu/multigrain flour in low flame till aroma arises and keep aside. Dry roast coconut pieces too.

5.Boil some water and add jaggery to it. Use water just to immerse the jaggery.

6.Keep stirring till it dissolves. If it has impurities filter it before going to the next step.

7. Add the flour,soaked dhal,jaggery syrup,cardamom powder and coconut pieces and mix well in a vessel. Do this while the syrup is hot.

8. Roll it into small balls or any shape of your choice and steam it in an idly pot for 20 minutes.

10. Serve hot.

Adding the right amount of water is the only crucial step in the procedure. You just have to add water to immerse the jaggery. You can stop boiling when the jaggery is completely dissolved. The coconut is optional although we love the crunch the coconut brings to the recipe!
