Sanavi, Golf Course Road, Gurgaon: Affordable but An Average Cafe

By Indian Food Freak @IFoodFreak

_DSC0089Sanavi is another name of Goddess Lakshmi. The small cafe on the Golf course road near HDFC bank has a very homely feel with a sofa on the corner, relaxing low seating chairs and a TV adorning one of the walls. It looks very similar to anyone’s drawing room but with a small counter that displays products on sale. The religious idols occupy much space near the counter and given a religious name, I have reasons to believe that the owner would be a religious person too.

_DSC0090The first look at the menu could not hide my disappointment. It is one of the smallest menu that I have seen in any cafe or restaurants that I have recently covered. With some cakes, coffee, Maggi, Jaffles, pizzas and rolls, there is hardly anything that I can look forward to in this menu. The reason is understandable- It serves to the corporate crowd who come here for a pocket friendly quick meal rather than a gourmet affair.

_DSC0098I start with the Honey Almond cake. It is microwaved warm cake. I like the flavours and softness and find it to be competent. Even at the street side hardly anyone sells Maggi at Rs50. Sanavi serves it at the same price in the air-conditioned comfort. Maggi has its own flavours and doesn’t need much. However in a veggie Maggi, I expected more than just carrots and onions.  I was told that they were over with capsicum that is otherwise used in the preparations.

_DSC0097Jaffles are comforting with ready to eat Mc Cann aloo tikki fried and used in the preparation. An all veggie pizza at Just Rs140 caught my attention. The pricing is very comforting but the pizza isn’t. It’s a thick ready-to-cook base that smells and uses the mozzeralla that doesn’t stretch.  Definitely not a pizza that I would like to try again!

_DSC0093The cappuccino is good and shakes are competent. The Kiwi Strawberry smoothie uses expensive Monin flavours and I like the balance of a bit sourness of kiwi that has been balanced with strawberry. The food is served in disposable plates given a small working kitchen with no wash area.

The service is efficient and the men behind the counters are one of the most humble I have met. I come back with mixed emotions. Sanavi is a small comforting cafe with good service, great value for money but average food.
