The show opened with Son Lux, a support act who not only treated us to soft melodies such as “Easy” but also to some beautiful, rhythmic percussion. The frontman began the show with slightly scratchy vocals, but he warmed up very quickly and then passionately sang the rest of the set, playing the keyboard and dancing whenever possible. Giving the audience 100% seems to be the band’s trademark, as the guitarist laid into his strings and surprised the crowd with some powerful solos, at times looping and blurring the lines together, while ecstatically rocking back and forth.
The main act, San Fermin, came on stage to a cheering audience, making it obvious that they’ve already captured a dedicated following despite having released their debut album only last September. Their music has been described as baroque pop, featuring the large ensemble of Rea and Allen on vocals, Ellis on keys (also the group’s composer), Rebekah on violin, John on the trumpet, Stephen on the saxophone, Tyler on the guitar and Michael on the drums. The group certainly didn’t disappoint the crowd, especially with their song “Sonsick”, where Rae’s powerful vocals and beautiful melody sent chills up and down my spine. Also, with a couple of the slower pieces, quite a few people joined in and sang along. As a whole, this was a beautifully melodic, emotional and eclectic show.
