The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ is a pretty big step up from it's predecessor, with an increased resolution and improved performance, this makes the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ one of Lenovo's finest.
Features and Design:
The Yoga Tablet has always been known for it's intuitive flip out stand that makes watching movies and viewing other various forms media a pleasure. You're either going to love the curved design, or you aren't, simple as that. The curved design adds a bit of bulk to the tablet, but the overall feel of the tablet is comfortable yet lightweight. If you compare the weight with the iPad Air, the Yoga 10 is definitely a bit heavier, but the Yoga 10 still won't be a wrist breaker. The overall quality of the device is rock solid, the metal stand holds strong. While the bulk of the device is basically made up of a wide metallic plastic wrapper, it's still has an appealing design. When you're holding it in a portrait orientation, it's very comfortable, and it simulates you reading a newspaper or magazine. In landscape orientation it's a bit of a different story when hand-holding, it's a bit awkward. Landscape mode is really there for watching movies, while the portrait view was made for reading and browsing the web. The integrated stand does make the landscape mode tolerable however. The stand is sturdy enough to hold the tablet rigid throughout varying angles. Lenovo calls this one Stand mode, and while the orientation is fine, select the preset from Sound & Vision and it really pushes the effects. The overall design of the Yoga 10 HD+ is solid, and the integrated stand provides some nice viewing angles.
Quality and Performance:
Although the look of the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ is no different to its predecessor, as its display is the same 10.1-inches in scale, it now benefits from a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. That's a considerable boost compared to before, and it was only the only problem I had with the previous device. The screen's coating is a bit more glossy than I had hoped for, which can provide some unwanted screen reflections while watching a movie. Also boosted is the Yoga Tablet's core power. It's out with the MediaTek processor and in with the Qualcomm Snapdragon S400 and 2GB of RAM for the HD+ model. That's twice as much memory compared to the original device, so running apps in the background won't slow you down like before. Although a Snapdragon S400 isn't a top-of-the-line chip any more, it's more than ample enough. I had no problems browsing, watching movies, or playing medial Android games. Its 9,000mAh battery provides a huge capacity that's a step ahead of most of its competitors. Paired with Lenovo's Endurance power-saving application it's also possible to be more sparing with consumption. At a normal brightness without any apps running, the device can stay on for almost two days straight, which is impressive. Internal storage options come in 16GB (as tested) or 32GB capacities, but as there's a microSD slot tucked behind the built-in stand that can be loaded with a card to bump up that capacity even more. The two speakers on the front offer up enough sound quality for any average user, but most people will most likely bring along a set of headphones when you take it on the road. The HD+ also updates the camera, adding a new 8-megapixel snapper to replace the 5MP offering of the original device. The front camera is a 1.6MP offering to cater for Skype and various other chatting apps.
Final Thoughts:
The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ is a significant improvement compared to its predecessor, with a ton of minor improvements that will help justify your upgrade.
