What do you do with the leftover paint on your palette when you finish one project? We are all trying to be frugal and get the most out of our products as possible, so I now keep a few smaller canvases and panels nearby my desk at all times. Anytime I have any extra paint left over, I use it up by brushing it on one ore more of these spares nearby. Many of you have seen to use leftover inks on tags and journal pages to create the beginning of a new background – I’m applying the same principle to some canvases. This has helped to spark some extra creativity as well. I now have some simple backgrounds ready to go at all times. Sometimes these backgrounds may be totally covered up by the time I’m finished, but I’m not left trying to start on a blank white canvas all the time. This piece above had some great aquamarine blue mixed with white and burnt umber.
When I saw this quote, I knew that I had a canvas background ready to go for it. Once I started playing and adding some scrap papers from my stash box, I added more aquamarine and added in a little cobalt turquoise. The letters are American Crafts Thickers and Pink Paislee. I did use glue to adhere these letters to make sure they wouldn’t come off the acrylic paint. After it was all done, I sprinkled just a tiny amount of glitter on the canvas and set it all with a gloss Crystal Kote. Here is another tip. When I’m trying to decide the placement of something such as these letters on a canvas, I use one of my clear mat protectors from any electronic die-cut machine (i.e. Sizzix Eclips or Cricut) and lay that over my canvas. I then have a clear surface to better align a title or object before sticking it to my project. This works for layouts as well.
Hope you were inspired by my project today and will now use up any leftover paint rather than throwing it away.
Thanks for stopping by.
