I was going to post this pin last week, but when I went to work on the post, the shared server this website resides on was having file system problems. I am becoming increasingly displeased with Arvixe, but the sad truth of the matter is that I currently do not have the time to evaluate alternatives, and to deal with whatever problems will arise from switching hosting companies. The timing was rather ironic, as my original hosting contract ends at the end of this month. I briefly considered simply letting my hosting expire. The Mercheum gets very few visitors, my posts get very few comments, and I get very little feedback and support from the community. I want to believe that I am making a valuable contribution, but the numbers do not support that belief.
In the end, I reminded myself that part of my reason for starting the Harvey Mercheum was to learn about running a website, promoting it on social media, learning about WordPress and the various themes and plugins available for it, and to learn more about PHP, HTML, CSS, cPanel and all the other tools involved. This process is ongoing, and so I will renew my hosting for this purpose if no other.
I have not been completely idle. I moved some custom code out of FUNCTIONS.PHP into a plugin I found called Code Snippets. This will make updating or changing my theme easier going forward. I have been experimenting with AMP, the Accelerated Mobile Pages Project. I am again considering a Facebook page for the Harvey Mercheum. I have been researching switching the website to HTTPS: and SSL. And I spent over a week on and off working on Favicons for the website so that they would validate correctly. Real Favicon Generator.net‘s checker now reports that they are perfect.
Getting back to the exhibit, Facebook group member Shad Daly posted a pin aimed not at Harvey Comics fans, but at World War II history buffs. During WWII, American bombers frequently had art of some sort painted on their noses, and BattleZone Ltd. offers a series of hat pins depicting some of that art. One of these features Sad Sack. Thanks to Shad for finding this interesting item, and for allowing the Harvey Mercheum to exhibit it:
