The only thing can be said that both the Phalke Award and Gulzar have been honoured.
One Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen starrer film Aandhee appeared on the silver screen in 1975.
This film by Gulzar created a furore in the erstwhile Union Government .Ultimately the film had to face ban in the Emergency imposed by the then Congress government. Though it was believed to be a film depicting Indira  Gandhi, the erstwhile Prime Minister, but it was said that the film projected the then Bihar’s firebrand leader Ms.Tarkeshwari Sinha (Though it is not a matter of concern but the film was undoubtedly a landmark one.)
His film Koshish was a tremendous. It projects Gulzar’s genre the most. There is a story of a deaf and dumb couple who manages to lead the life harmonically.Despite facing hindrances and interruption the couple is concerned about their baby. The depiction of their emotions and frustrations were felt by the viewers simultaneously. The multi-talented personality known as Sampooran Singh Kalra Gulzar(the pen name from which he is known worldwide.) is famous for his unforgettable contribution in the field of literature, besides Indian cinema(for which he was acclaimed worldwide).  Either it be an emphatic dialog of “Daadi ma,Shaam se kah dena ki Chhenu ayaa thaa…”(film Mere Apne)..On the other hand the lyric “Saare Ke Saare Gama Ko Lekar Gaate Chale”(film Parichay) in which the musical notes Saa Re Gaa Maa are assembled in such a way that it enthralls the audience as they are mesmerised. Whereas the dialog emerges as an epitome of the complete film. It is Gulzar. His state of art ability is irremovable as long as the literature and cinema exists.
His fifty five years service in the above mentioned field is highly commendable. He has equally served the film industy with enthusiasm during the various changes in the social structure, irrespective of the criticism. It can’t be said he was not critized but standing firmly he proved by his work that he is completely right. From Mora Gora Anga Lai Le,Mohe Shyam Rung Dai De to Biri Jalai Le Jigar Se Piya Jigar Maan Badi Aag Hai, he witnessed several generations. Meanwhile he showed his versatility in his work with perfection and none of the nuance was left apart. It might be the Mantra of his survival in the filmdom with dignity.
Moreover, his expertise seems limitless. His perseverance, patience and emotional involvement are simply reflected from most of his works. He has left neither state of the society and its structure.Either it be feudal system, extremism, youth’s frustration and fury towards the society or the the most burning issue of generation gap.
His films Parichay, Khushboo, Angoor, Koshish, Maachis etc are the witness of his caliber and will remain forever in the memory. His contributions have proved him beyond description. His philosophy of life seems to be corroborated in the following couplets penned by him:
Musafir hoon yaaro, na ghar hai na thikana, mujhe chalte  jaana hai bus chalte jaana.
