Ryan Shazier knocked Maurkice Pouncey to ground
A report says Shazier offered a handshake as an apology, but the three-time Pro Bowl center, coming off a torn ACL in 2013, wasn't having it.
"Football in Shorts" means "contact will occur, whether by accident or not."
Steelers rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier proved that Tuesday, after knocking Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, who is recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee, to the ground in the alleged contact-less practice.
As Beaver County Times writer Chris Bradford put it, Shazier got off to a rough start. That's a mild way to put the incident. He also wrote Shazier recognized his fault in the situation and quickly offered a handshake. The three-time Pro Bowl center wasn't having it.
Writes Bradford:
"I didn’t want to break rule No. 10," said Pouncey, referring to coach Mike Tomlin’s edict which forbids fighting.
No fighting is the 10th rule? While it seems like rules 1-9 deal with hitting the quarterback, the same way the NFL rulebook is written, certainly, knocking the returning injured captain to the ground still sits high on the list.
Interesting how Shazier's Welcome to the NFL moment may be him getting dunked in ice because of hitting someone, not because he was hit.
