RWA 2012 Adventure – Days Six and Seven

By Storycarnivores @storycarnivores

This has been quite the epic week for Story Carnivores, and it couldn’t have ended with a bigger bang! Not only did we thoroughly enjoy at our final day of conference on Saturday; we spent the rest of the weekend at the happiest place on Earth! Where else? Disneyland!!

Saturday was such an amazing day. While my pitches started a little rough on Friday, I was able to finally get into a groove and talk up my book successfully to a multitude of awesome agents and editors (wish me luck!). Most of the final day of conference was talking to published authors and obtaining copies of their brand new, signed books. One of the last signing rooms I found an author whose book has the exact same working title as mine (I’ve since changed it!). I couldn’t help but take a photo.

Then, once Shaunta and I stepped out of the conference for the final time, it was time to unload all of our books at the hotel room and spend the rest of the weekend at Disneyland. I hadn’t been in two years, and Shaunta hadn’t been in four, and we were able to find plenty of rides, shows, and even themed lands, that we’d never been to before! I was so excited to see, for the first time, the brand new Cars Land, which features the major new attraction Radiator Springs Racers, a glorious thrill ride that may take a while to get on—the line was on average two-and-a-half hours long (hint: enter the single riders’ line!)—but is worth the wait. I checked out The Little Mermaid and Star Tours: The Adventure Continues too, and we both watched the Aladdin musical show—all fun!

We snapped tons of photos throughout our Disneyland adventure, and I’ve posted only the best. Please note Shaunta’s face in the Space Mountain photo: it’s about as memorable as they come. I loved checking out all the new rides, as well as the old favorites like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, and I was most excited of all to receive a surprise visit on Sunday from a great friend.

Yes, this week was incredible. We’re exhausted and ready to get home, but it was a total blast. A lot was accomplished, new friends were made, and best of all, Shaunta and I got to spend a whole week together!! Today we head back home to Reno, and tomorrow the blog will resume book and movie reviews, starting with the truly wonderful Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. This trip was so epic, and sooooo much fun! We already can’t wait for RWA 2013!
