Shaunta and I have been excited all summer to attend the RWA Writing Conference in Anaheim — this will be the fourth trip to RWA for Shaunta, and the first for me! — and today we finally departed for an epic 8-day trip that will take us to the conference, Disneyland, Dark Knight Rises in IMAX, and much much more! For the next week we will take a break from book and movie reviews and deliver daily updates with stories, pictures, and maybe even some videos, of our many adventures! Come along!
Tomorrow we need to register at at the conference between 1 and 5pm, and since we had a nine-hour drive from Reno, we decided to split our drive in two, stopping in Bishop for the night. Our journey couldn’t properly begin without a picture with Carnie!
Ten minutes into our drive we passed by President Obama, who was visiting Reno for the day. A great way to start our adventure!
The drive on US-395 from Reno to Los Angeles is so beautiful, with Topaz Lake, Mono Lake, and magnificent mountains everywhere you turn. Shaunta has never been down this way! I attended college in Los Angeles, so I’ve been down this way at least a dozen times. It’s such a pretty drive!
We arrived at the El Rancho Motel in Bishop at about 6:30pm. It’s a cute hidden motel that sits a block away from Main Street.
We asked the owner what she recommended for dinner around here. Believe it or not, a bowling alley restaurant is the highest rated eatery around here! We enjoyed some strawberry lemonade with rum, plus pork chops and pork tenderloin, under a giant swordfish!
And since we had dinner in a bowling alley… we couldn’t resist some actual bowling! I went first and Shaunta went second.
