Ruffled Fabric Flowers

So, I'm back.   You may or may not have noticed I was gone for bit of a holiday.  We left last week Wednesday and returned yesterday.  It was a great vacation and we got to catch up with some old friends and family.  Plus, of course, we managed to do fit in some fun stuff for the kids and even some outlet shopping.  Yay! Moving on.   It's the last week before my daughter's Fancy Nancy party.  She's so excited, counting down the days.  And I'm getting the final pieces put together.  The last week can be a little stressful at times, but I love it!  I love to see everything come together.   I thought I might share with you yet another project for the party. Ruffled Fabric Flowers.

And yes, I'm fully aware that there are millions of fabric flower tutorials out there.  And perhaps, someone out there has already written a tutorial for a flower very similar to this.  But, I haven't seen one and I did create these on my own.  So let's all get past it and enjoy some ruffly-flowery goodness, shall we!?
This is how to make some of your own. Get your hot glue gun, scissors, scrap fabric (thin, loose, gauzy or silky fabric works great), embellishments (rhinestones, pearls, etc), and felt.

First off, find a circle template that's about 2 1/2 inches wide.  I used a jar lid. Trace your template onto your felt piece and cut it out.

Then get yourself some scrap fabric.  I used a strip of fabric to make the process go faster.  My strip was about 16 inches long.

Fold it in half.

Then fold in thirds like this.


Pin together, then trace your template and cut out all of your layers at once.  Since I'm lazy, this made it go a little quicker and you won't have to use your scissors as often.

It won't look perfect and it doesn't have to be.

Get your hot glue gun and add a dab in the center of your circle.

Fold the circle in half and press together.

Then add another dab in the bottom center of your folded circle.

Again, fold in half and press together.

Continue with the other fabric circles.  For each flower you will need 6 pieces.

Begin to glue them onto your felt circle with the pointed edge facing the center.

Glue them across from each other like this.

Then glue the next two beside the existing two.

And add the last two in the remaining empty spaces.

Then you can add your bead/embellishment in the center of your flower.

Continue the process and make more!!  Why not?  They were ridiculously easy!

Aren't they just so delicate and ruffly?


They're great for hairclips or brooches or whatever you want, really!
