These past few weeks have been a bit sparse when it comes to new albums, but those that are being released are making up for the lack of breadth in depth. Take Anna von Hausswolff’s sophomore record, Ceremony, which is intensely original and articulated with none other than a church organ as the sole instrument on nine of the thirteen tracks. The result is bold, cinematic, and vastly beautiful. And speaking of well thought out records, Royal Forest’s latest is a psychedelic daydream recorded directly to tape and mastered at Abbey Road Studios. Spillway is lo-fi crunch with a silvery overlay and irresistibly melodic core.

Chicago’s youthful (none of the members are even 21) Twin Peaks are releasing their dreamy debut this week — it’s extremely catchy and completely refreshing. Heading in the opposite direction in terms of flavor is Daughn Gibson, with his salty second full-length that features more of his dark and dirty country grit. British rockers, Editors, will release their fourth moody record featuring expansive sounds with a clear Americana influence.

ANNA VON HAUSSWOLFF – CEREMONY
