As FOTM reader CSM quipped in her email to me: “I guess hell did freeze over.”

Roseanne Barr has broken ranks with the gun-control Left!

Jessica Chasmar reports for The Washington Times, Feb. 19, 2013, that Barr, the actress and former Green Party presidential candidate, was so incensed by Democratic Colorado State Assemblyman Joseph Salazar‘s  comments last week about women and rape, that she is advocating the arming of women.

Last Friday, during a debate in the Colorado state legislature on the gun-control bill, HB 13-1226 - “No Concealed Carry At Colleges,” Rep. Salazar was arguing in favor of disarming college students. He said even if a woman feels like she is going to be raped or if someone is following her, that doesn’t mean she actually is in danger. Besides, the woman can use a rape whistle, call box, and safe zones. Furthermore, Salazar argued that women fearing rape may become so hysterical that they’ll suddenly and haphazardly “pop a round at somebody” and “You just don’t know who you’re going to be shooting at.”

Salazar apologized for his remarks the following Monday, saying “I’m sorry if I offended anyone. That was absolutely not my intention. We were having a public policy debate on whether or not guns makes people safer on campus. I don’t believe they do. That was the point I was trying to make.”

Salazar’s comments have sparked a gender debate in the news media, with many pundits and politicians saying he is assuming women are irrational by nature. Rep. Lori Saine, R-Colo, told Fox 31, “My daughter’s going to be going off to college in about ten years. I can’t imagine her only option’s going to be to outrun her attacker to a call box. I think she’s going to be responsible enough to handle a gun.”

Salazar’s comments also provoked the rabid leftist Roseanne Barr to become a gun-rights advocate. Barr opined to her following on Twitter:

“Arm the women of the world-send guns and ammo everywhere-train them to make clean headshots. #howtopreventrape

Until women use force to fight force, force will win against them.”

Welcome to the Rebel Alliance, Roseanne!

Joe Salazar had his way. Colorado’s state legislature passed HB 13-1227 and three other gun-control bills. Go here.
