If you're local to Cheltenham, Gloucester or somewhere near by, Robinswood Hill Country Park is a lovely location for a walk. There are sheep for the kids to play on, picnic benches and open spaces for picnics.
The views are lovely, and there is even a free car park, toilets and cafe.
It's pretty ideal really, although I don't know of a path which is ideal for toddlers to walk to the top, as the ones I have been on are steep and not all will cope with them, or 1-2 hour walks. So I'd definitely advise a toddler carrier.
This week we enjoyed a lovely snack time at the top while watching the view, and letting B recover before the walk down. I'd definitely recommend taking kids drinks and snacks for your walk.

Map of Robinswood Hill Country Park walks and trailsThere are four walking routes most of which circular.
The Robinswood hill walking routes vary, some are steep, and some quite gentle. But do note the Fox Trail and Tree Trail both take around 2 hours which is quite long for younger kids to walk. The Geology Trail is shorter at 1.5 hours but you probably want time to hunt for fossils too.
Robinswood Hill with kidsThere are lots of things to entertain toddlers and kids near the car park, that don't involve steep slopes and...
- Fairly flat paths
- Picnic tables and areas suitable for picnic blankets
- Sheep for the kids to play on
- Playground
- Toilets nearby by the café!
Robinswood Hill Quarry fossil hunting
Robinswood Hill Quarry is a great place for fossil hunting. The quarry faces are Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) so no hammering or breaking any rocks allowed. But the scree below is a good place to have a hunt or in the woods to the right of the lower quarry face. This is actually a real Gloucestershire gem as Robinswood Hill Quarry is a SSSI as it's seen as the best inland section of early Jurassic rocks in the country.
Reach the quarry by following the green Geology Trail on the map or by parking at Fox Elms Road and taking the path with the metal gate.

🚙 CAR PARK? Yes, there is a FREE car park. We found it easy to park after the morning school run, but work is being done, so may be busier at peak times.
🚻 Toilets? Yes
🌳 Pushchair friendly? Probably not, though some paths would be, the ones we use to the top are steep and I wouldn't want to push a pushchair down them. There might be a long gradual path too though... But I don't know.
🍏 Picnics? Yes, there are benches on some paths and at the top.
👧🧒 Walkable for toddlers? Steep and long to the top, the paths indicate all walking routes are 2 hours... mostly gentler up and steeper down. So toddlers probably want a carrier. I expected to carry B a lot (she's 3), but somehow snacks and mummy time got her through!
