One of the most uproarious Fashion Trends for Spring-Summer 2012 from the New York, London, Milan and Paris Runways is an array of silhouettes, styles, colors and textures directly inspired from the Roaring Twenties.
Art Deco, Retro Feel,

It all started in New York with the Spring Summer 2012 collections, from the Hollywood glitter and glam inspiration to the modern fluid silhouettes of BCBG Max Azria to the Daisy Buchanan feel directly taken from “The Great Gatbsy”, Ralph Lauren Collection. This is by no means new territory for Ralph Lauren who designed the Men’s Wardrobe for the original movie with the unforgettable Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, directed by Jack Clayton back in 1974.

The London show followed with dazzling beaded and fringe flapper dresses from Matthew Williamson and Milan with the most Art Deco influenced evening fringe dresses at Etro and Gucci.

Paris might have been the least literal in interpreting that 20′s flow. Pedro Lourenço, Chloé, Chanel and few items from Louis Vuitton as well as Yves Saint Laurent  completed a total roaring twenties wardrobe.

The international success of the french movie “The Artist” featuring Bérénice Béjo and Jean Dujardin, directed by Michel Hazanavicius, is with no doubt reinforcing the feel of a new Charleston era.

The film gained serious world wide notoriety where Jean Dujardin wone the Best Actor Award in Cannes in 2011 where the film premiered. Aside from the commercial success of the movie which is a tribute to the Black and White silent Hollywood films from the 20′s, we just had confirmation this evening that “silence is golden” where “the Artist” walked off with 3 Golden Globe Awards from 6 Nominations:

  • Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
  • Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Jean Dujardin
  • Best Original Score for Ludovic Bource

The remake of “The Great Gatsby”

We will end 2012 with the Remake of “The Great Gatsby” under the Direction of Baz Luhrmann with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.

The Roaring Twenties were a short period in history (1919-1929). It was a time of unrest, enthusiasm, anxiety, emancipation of women and turmoil in all areas of the social fabric. Everything seemed possible where modern technology, especially with automobiles, moving pictures and radio during the Golden Twenties, was considered a panacea. But   it was also the time that lead up to the Great Depression which I feel has a frightening resemblance to our own epoque…
