Richard Lomax & The Tontine: I Cycle

Posted on the 28 January 2016 by Hctf @hctf

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Richard Lomax is working on his second album with his band The Tontine. The lead single I Cycle is a folkie declaration of doing things in your own way. The world's your oyster when you ride your bike - defiance wrapped in a joyous tune.

The song is based on the true story of suffragette Edith Rigby who pissed off the authorities by riding her bike in Preston in an age where women weren't supposed to do that. Lomax paints a picture of a bygone era, when standing up for equal rights was frowned upon at best. "Though people will talk//I Cycle//They may want me to walk but//I Cycle". The song features the sound of his own bike, setting up a dialog with the bass and drums.
