REWIND: Pizzaman - Trippin' On Sunshine

Posted on the 30 September 2016 by Rw/ff @rwffmusic
More wonderful music from 1996 as RW/FF takes you aboard a musical TARDIS on a journey through musical history. If you weren't around or were too young to remember the mid 90s,it's a lesson of enlightenment. If you (like me) were lucky enough to experience it all first time around, then these posts make a fine nostalgic blast from the blast.

Today's stop on our 1996 journey arrives at a club classic. The ecstatic 'Trippin' On Sunshine' was the work of Pizzaman, a duo consisting of John Reid and Norman Cook, the man better known to many as Fatboy Slim. For those who are wondering, that's not the same John Reid who fronted the Nightcrawlers.

The pair released an album entitled 'Pizzamania' in 1995. The LP spawned three singles, all of which reached the top forty on the UK Singles Chart. 'Trippin' On Sunshine' was originally released in 1994, reaching number 33. When it was re-released in 1996, it went to number 18. Aside from a non-album single 'Hello Honky Tonks (Rock Your Body)', Pizzaman didn't release any more material, and after Reid and Cook went their separate ways, the latter went on to enjoy more success as Fatboy Slim. As well as being in The Housemartins, Norman Cook was also part of Freak Power, Beats International, Mighty Dub Katz and many more acts, as well as recording under a huge amount of aliases. Chances are we'll probably see hearing plenty more from Norman in future 'REWIND' posts...
