Review: Timeless by Gail Carriger

Review: Timeless by Gail Carriger Description (from cover):
'Alexia Tarabotti, Lady Maccon, has settled into domestic bliss. Of course, being Alexia, such bliss involves integrating werewolves into London high society, living in a vampire's second best closet, and coping with a precocious toddler who is prone to turning supernatural willy-nilly.
Until, that is, she receives a summons that cannot be ignored. With husband, child and Tunstells in tow, Alexia boards a steamer to cross the Mediterranean. But Egypt may hold more mysteries than even the indomitable Lady Maccon can handle. What does the vampire Queen of the Alexandria Hive really want from her? Why is the God-Breaker Plague suddenly expanding? And how has Ivy Tunstell suddenly become the most popular actress in all the British Empire?
Timeless is the final book of the Parasol Protectorate series: a comedy of manners set in Victorian London, full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.'
My thoughts:
It is so sad when one comes to the end of a series one really enjoys. I hated to see this one end, but all good things must come to an end, I suppose. This one wraps up things nicely, but I would love to see another book to see what happens to all the characters. The ending leaves much to be desired in the way of a final ending, and it just didn't seem to hit the mark. A great book, but the ending leaves things open and I am hoping that the author will give me another book to read. Highly unlikely, but stranger things have happened.
Alexia is summoned to Egypt with her daughter and husband in tow. Of course, not to do anything lightly, Lady Maccon must bring along the Tunstells along with their acting troupe and Madame Lefoux. Of course, it is an amusing trip, with all those eccentric characters. Alexia must find out why she was summoned, because she suspects that nefarious purposes are at work. Of course, nothing is what it seems and Alexia finds herself in the midst of vampire conspiracy and werewolf drama. What else?
I wish the author would have delved more into Alexia's father's past and why he did the things he did. He is a major catalyst in this series, and I thought all would be revealed in this one. A little was shown to the reader, but not enough to satisfy the never-ending mystery surrounding this character. Also the reader is left wondering at the end what is to become of everyone. Not your typical series ending, but this isn't your so typical series to begin with. A little disappointed in the outcome, but still a smashing end to a riveting series.
