'Living in the small town of Heavenly, Pennsylvania, Claire Weatherly has come to admire the Amish for their wholesome, honest way of life. But she also knows that nothing is as simple as it seems--especially when murder disturbs the peace.
Claire has always been game for a good puzzle, so when she hears that Mose Fisher has made one of his famous corn mazes, she can't wait to walk the paths and test her skill. But she'll have a much more serious puzzle to solve when, deep inside the maze, she discovers the body of Amish dairy farmer Harley Zook.
Ir won't be easy for Detective Jakob Fisher to investigate a murder on his own father's farm--not after being shunned by the man for leaving the Amish community and becoming a cop. With Mose himself as a suspect, and old family secrets cropping up, it's up to Claire to help catch the killer before she finds herself at a dead end.'
My thoughts:
Not many people find the Amish to be a fascinating group of people. I know that I didn't really pay much attention to the way of life and the community of the Amish until there were cozy mysteries popping up that feature them. I think that I enjoy reading and learning about them because their ways of life are so much different from someone so used to technology and how fast paced life is. I can't imagine eschewing technology and automobiles and staying connecting to the rest of the world. However, people who can do this are utterly fascinating and I can't help but want to learn more about them and their way of life. Laura Bradford really has done her research when it comes to writing this series and it shows on every single page. She portrays the Amish is such an interesting light that I find it nearly impossible to not want to learn more.
Claire Weatherly has stumbled into yet another murder mystery, not on purpose, but by chance. Of course it would involve the highly elusive Amish that live her in small town of Heavenly, Pennsylvania. A murder investigation that directly involves the Amish is nearly impossible to solve as the Amish are highly wary of the police and do not reveal any information. Yet, Claire and Jakob are determine to discover the motive for the crime and to get justice for Harley Zook. They are determined to bring a killer to justice even if it means that Jakob has to arrest his own father for murder.
The author takes us through the English investigation and the Amish way of life throughout this book. It so interesting to read about them working side by side and to see how big the differences are. Of course, Claire is determined to solve this crime and she does so with Amish help and the help of her English friends. I enjoyed this book a lot and cannot wait to continue learning about the Amish and to see what Claire finds herself embroiled in next.
