Description (from cover):
'Her Charmed Pie Shoppe is open for business, but baker Ella May LeFaye is about to discover solving a murder is not as easy as pie...
Owning the Charmed Pie Shoppe and serving enchanted treats in the magical town of Havenwood, Georgia, seemed like a little slice of heaven for Ella May LeFaye. But now her hopes for both a lasting romance with Hugh Dylan and business success are starting to seem like pie in the sky, and Ella's left wondering: Where has the magic gone?
When an enchanted grove is set ablaze, Ella realizes she has more grave problems. With her magic waning, she's going to have to sleuth from scratch to stop an arsonist who has no respect for sacred ground--or human life...'
My thoughts:
I really enjoy this series as it has a mystery and magic. However this book was so predictable, it was a little disappointing. I pegged the murder pretty early on and wasn't even closed to surprised when my suspicions came true. I think that this book was more of a filler type of book to lead into the next part of this series. It definitely was a stepping point for the future of the series and less of an exciting mystery. I can't wait to read the next installment of this series as the ending left much in the open. This probably was my least favorite of this series, but I have high hopes that the next book will be much better.
Ella Mae LeFaye has a great demeanor and is a great character. She is sweet, but smart and sassy at the same time and the reader can't help but enjoy reading about her sleuthing abilities. She has a great support system in her family and friends and I love each and every single one of them as their characters are so different and quirky. I can't wait to see what happens next in Ella Mae's relationship with Hugh as this book was a huge pivotal point on that aspect.
If you love this series, you will forgive the author for the overly predictable mystery and relish the characters. I am hoping the next isn't so predictable, but with all the side stories going on, I am sure to be entertained. I am a little disappointed in this one, but like I said I really think that this book was a stepping stone to more great things for this series. I am not quite ready to give this one up yet. There was an excerpt at the end of this book for Adam's newest series and I am really intrigued. Can't wait for that one to be released in August of this year.
