Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.
Something worse than the Arum has come to town…
The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.
But then everything changes…
I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

So I almost fell in love with Obsidian, and the same thing happened with Onyx - I almost fell in love.  How is that possible when you have hot-swoony-delicious Daemon as one of the main characters? Honestly, it seems a bit crazy.

Like in Obsidian, I loved Katy. She was so much like me! I mean, I like to think I have witty responses and have a ultra-hot guy poking my back with a pen.... But anyways, I like that she's a book blogger. I mean, JLA may be trying to really pull a target audience thing, but I liked the way she worked with Katy's hobbies throughout the book.

The one thing I disliked about Katy was how one moment she was all hot-and-heavy with Daemon, and the next she hated him so much. I mean, it's okay for a girl to be indecisive about a guy, but this was a little overboard. I mean, I was fine with the hot-and-heavy scenes, but it was like the instant they stopped she absolutely HATED his guts. And no, it wasn't just like "oh, I hate you to be cute" or anything. It was like full on hatred at times. It was odd...

Now, Daemon. Wow. He was definitely a dynamic character. He grew extraordinarily throughout this novel. There were scenes where he was actually sweet and considerate. I know - I would never imagine myself using those words to describe Daemon Black, but it's true. I think the relationship between him and Katy kind of had another spark that brought them even closer together.

I really enjoyed the use of minor characters in this novel. There were a couple new characters introduced, but I like how JLA developed characters that were brought up in the first novel. First of all, Dee is kind of toned down in this one. She doesn't make as much of an appearance, but she's still there, which is good! Adam is brought forth more (OH MY GOSH), and even Ash! Will, Katy's mom's boyfriend, plays a stronger role in this novel. Then there's Blake. I'm not sure what to say about him, other than he was an interesting character. There were times that I hated him, and times that I liked him. Even after reading this, I have to admit he was a decent guy...

This plot was definitely more interesting than Obsidian's plot. There just seemed to be a lot more substance. AND HOLY COW, there were A LOT of twists-and-turns in this novel. It seemed like every other chapter something amazing was happening! I liked how they toned down all the fighting between Katy and Daemon, and they focused more on Katy and trying to figure out what she is.
I don't want to give the plot away too much, so I think I'm going to end this review short. If you haven't read Obsidian you need to. If you've read Obsidian but haven't picked up Onyx, then you definitely are crazy and need to do so now! This book brought forth something great, and I can't wait to read Opal!
